Alternative Dispute Resolution |
13 |
In the suburbs of London, a young widow has been
randomly selected as the winner of a $10 million Publishers Lottery. On the other side of the world, a man wakes up to
learn that he too has been randomly selected. To
fight for his life. When Bradley Henderson, a mild mannered accountant wakes up to a gun in
his face, his captor tells him that he has five minutes to prepare for a fight to the
death. The process is entirely random. Even to his captor the purpose of the fight is
unknown. In Alternative Dispute Resolution, a
world of seemingly random events unfold into a not so random process of settling
differences. In the process, the true purpose
of the mega lottery is told. |

Procreation for a Better Australia |
9 |
Remember those old duck-and-cover
documentaries of the 1950's? Everything was so simple then. Men wore suits and women wore
poodle skirts and everyone loved to dance to rock and roll. 'Procreation for a Better
Australia' neatly satirises the attitudes of a bygone era as our hero; a clumsy,
unattached nuclear scientist attempts, at the prompting of the narrator, to seduce and
court an unsuspecting sheila. Of course he gets the girl in the end. That's the beauty of
the era - the hero always wins, even when it's obvious he doesn't.Shot on rare 8mm film
format, giving it that authentic look, 'Procreation for a Better Australia' is so dead on,
John Howard could possibly mistake it for the real thing. |

SMILE |
13 |
"SMILE is an impressive 2005 student film by
Yuval Markovich and Noam Abta produced at Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design in
Jerusalem. Horror films are all too rare in animation, and this short does a solid job of
building the tension and creating a mood of paranoia and uncertainty. Technically, it
looks like the film was shot in live-action, with over sized CG heads placed on the live
bodies. It's a surprisingly effective technique that adds to the film's uneasy mood. |
